Stranger Ways: Liberty and collision

A squeaky bed, a small wooden table with its chipped off edges. An overused pair of diner chairs and frumpy curtains opening to the wall-facing window. In the cheap, crammed up room that his boss, the hotel-owner, had arranged for him, he felt liberated.

The cellphone buzzed. Time to get to work.

As he sped down the stairs to the restaurant, he bumped into someone, and though neither of them fell, something did fall. And whatever did, smashed into…
